ABOUT

Olga Takeda

Olga Takeda is a contemporary artist working in painting and sculpture, based in Munich.

My paintings begin without a fixed image in mind. I work directly onto a textured surface, responding to the changes that occur as oil paint is applied, wiped away and reworked. Earlier states of the painting remain present as traces, even as the work continues to change. Through this process, the image gradually moves towards a new and uncertain form.

I am interested in transitions between darkness and light, memory and presence, and the preservation and transformation of experience. These ideas are not represented through specific subjects; instead, they shape the atmosphere, movement and material structure of the paintings.

I work exclusively with oil paint. Colour flows across the textured surface, gathers in its hollows and becomes part of an ongoing process of accumulation and removal. The paintings develop through a balance between deliberate decisions and intuitive responses, creating open spaces in which the visible and the hidden can coexist.

Painting allows me to remain with what is unresolved—to give form to experiences that cannot be fully articulated without closing them down.
